Panaji

Three more candidates filed their nomination papers on Saturday, taking the total to 35 for the election to the Corporation of the City of Panaji scheduled for March 11.

According to information provided by the State Election Commission, Brijesh Kavlekar filed his nomination from Ward 12 (General), Namrata Sardesai from Ward 26 (General) and Dattaraj Halankar from Ward 28 (General) for the CCP polls.

Meanwhile, Chief Electoral Officer Sanjay Goel said that although the new final electoral roll has been published by the Election Commission of India, the power lies with the State Election Commission to adopt the electoral roll of the Goa Legislative Assembly prepared under the provisions of the Representation of the People
Act, 1950.

The State Election Commission said that it has adopted the electoral roll in force as on January 1, 2025, as the qualifying date, along with the lists of additions, deletions and corrections carried out during continuous updation till October 1, 2025, namely Supplement 2, Supplement 3 and Supplement 4, for the preparation of the ward-wise photo electoral roll for the CCP polls.

This means that if the State Election Commission proceeds with its decision to adopt the electoral roll published on January 1, 2025 and the revised roll as on October 1, 2025, voters deleted from the list after SIR will be eligible to vote in the CCP polls.
