The state government has proposed introducing an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-enabled teacher attendance management system in schools across the state.

“This initiative will ensure real-time, accurate, and tamperproof attendance tracking that will reduce administrative workload and manual errors, and enable data-driven monitoring and transparency at both school and departmental levels,” a government official said, adding that all schools across Goa have been on-boarded onto the SwiftChat Smart Attendance Chatbot application for marking teachers’ attendance.

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has effectively leveraged AI-enabled digital tools to enhance governance, teaching–learning processes, and student assessment across schools. One of these tools is the competency-based student learning through the PARAKH weekly practice app.

“Students from Classes I to IX actively use the PARAKH app, an AI-supported learning platform that provides weekly competency-based MCQ practice across all subjects. It offers personalized learning support through adaptive questioning and continuous reinforcement of classroom learning at home. The data generated provides insights for teachers to identify learning gaps and plan remediation,” the official said.

The official also said that the National Initiative for Proficiency in Reading with Understanding and Numeracy (NIPUN) Chatbot was successfully deployed for conducting assessments for Classes I and II, ensuring standardized and objective assessment of foundational skills.

“This enables large-scale assessment with minimal human intervention and provides instant feedback and data for targeted academic support,” the official said.

Additionally, the DoE has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the US-based Ole Education Foundation for the program – enhanced learning through smart classrooms powered by AI, which is implemented in 25 government schools in the state.

“Under this initiative, each school is provided with a smart board, and tablets are distributed to all students of Class VIII, supporting personalized teaching and learning,” the official said.
