AAP Goa delegation, on Thursday, submitted a memorandum to the Goa Governor, Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju, alleging collapse of law and order in the state citing the various incidents of crime seen in the recent times.

“We have requested the Governor to summon the Chief Minister and seek his resignation as the Home Minister and appoint someone senior and experienced as a full-time Home Minister,” said AAP national spokesperson Valmiki Naik after meeting the Governor.

Alleging “systemic collapse of the rule of law” under CM Pramod Sawant, AAP in its memorandum stated, “Goa, once celebrated for its tranquility and safe environment, is now witnessing brazen criminality on a regular basis, and it is evident that the criminals no longer fear the system.”

The memorandum added that the police have had limited to no success in solving serious cases, and the repeated nature of similar crimes shows that criminals are operating with impunity and with no fear of the law and order machinery.

The memorandum also stated that the audacity displayed by criminals in the cases like tying up entire families in their homes, assaulting activists in a broad daylight, firing guns in public over disputes etc, reveals that the fear of the law has vanished.

“The current trajectory under Sawant demands urgent constitutional remedy. We urge your respected office to take immediate steps to summon the CM and obtain his resignation as Home Minister,” it said.

AAP said that Goa requires a full-time Home Minister who can restore confidence in the system and ensure the police are free from undue political intervention, empowered to act swiftly, impartially and without fear or favour, strengthen investigative and prosecutorial machinery and launch a visible public-safety campaign.
