Panaji: The District and Sessions Court, North Goa, has granted permission to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing

land grab cases to conduct further investigation in connection with the Anjuna land fraud involving 15,000 sq m.

The SIT had earlier filed a chargesheet against Royson Rodrigues, Mohammed Suhail alias Michael Fernandes, Rajkumar Maithi alias Raju Maithi, and Denver Shaun D’Souza under various sections of the Indian Penal Code.

The SIT informed the court that further evidence needs to be collected and that additional investigation is required. It said

that the role of government servants, if any, is yet to be established.

“More evidence and statements of witnesses and government office staff of different departments are to be recorded. More evidence/specimen signatures of the absconding accused persons are to be obtained,” the SIT said while seeking permission for further investigation.

The SIT also said that exhibits, including forged documents and specimen signatures, are required to be sent for examination.

According to police, the accused prepared forged documents relating to a landed property in Anjuna admeasuring 15,400 sq m and impersonated legal heirs of the property.

The accused, with common intention, fraudulently produced the forged documents before authorities and succeeded in transferring rights over the property.

Police further stated that during the investigation it was revealed that public records maintained in the Archives Department, including notarial deeds of sale, had been manipulated, following which additional sections were invoked.
