Salcete taluka has emerged as the undisputed front-runner in South Goa’s Civil Registrar cum Sub Registrar (CRSR) performance for the year 2025, generating a substantial Rs 80.96 crore in revenue, the highest among all seven talukas in the district.

This single taluka contributed nearly half of South Goa’s total revenue of
Rs 160.85 crore, which also includes collections from the newly formed Kushavati district.

“Salcete recorded 1,800 marriages in 2025, averaging five weddings a day, along with the issuance of 30,245 marriage certificates during the year,” said District Registrar Suraj Vernekar.

With its high population base, active administrative machinery and significant role in both social and legal registrations, Salcete taluka has firmly established itself as the economic and matrimonial hub of South Goa.

“While Salcete’s high marriage registration numbers are partly due to its large population, there was a sharp increase in certificate requests during the last two months of 2025, linked to the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls. Due to efficient processing, these certificates are usually issued within two to three days,” said Vernekar.

In addition to leading in weddings, Salcete also recorded the highest number of divorce cases, with 176 registered during the year. This figure is three times higher than Mormugao, which ranked second with 56 divorce cases.

Salcete’s dominance in South Goa in 2025 is reflected across all key indicators: Revenue of Rs 80.96 crore, accounting for 50 per cent of the district’s total revenue; marriages registered at 1,800, the highest in the district; marriage certificates issued at 30,245, the largest number during the year; and divorces registered at 176, again the highest in
the district.

By contrast, the next highest taluka in marriage registrations, Ponda, recorded 925 weddings, while Mormugao registered 794 marriages, including 55 canonical weddings. Other talukas trailed significantly, with Quepem recording 446 marriages, Canacona 259, Sanguem 200 and Dharbandora 159. In terms of marriage certificates issued, Salcete outpaced all other talukas by a wide margin. Mormugao issued 7,368 certificates, Ponda 6,263, Quepem 4,839, Canacona 3,342, Sanguem 2,793 and Dharbandora only 391.
