Mapusa

The Mapusa Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) Court on Thursday directed that a mattress be provided to Ajay Gupta, one of the co-owners of Birch by Romeo Lane, after considering his fresh medical reports. The court also extended his police custody by four days.

At the same time, the court remanded five other accused to 14 days of judicial custody.

Gupta was produced before the court along with five others, including four managers — Rajiv Modak (chief general manager), Priyanshu Thakur (gate manager), Rajveer Singhania (bar manager), Vivek Singh (general manager) — and Bharat Kohli, who was responsible for managing the day-to-day operations of the establishment on behalf of the owners.

During the hearing, counsel for Gupta submitted a representation highlighting several issues, including health-related concerns. Based on this submission, the court directed that Gupta be first medically examined at the North District Hospital, following which he was referred to the Goa Medical College and Hospital, Bambolim.

After the doctor’s report certified a back-related issue, the court directed that a mattress be provided to Gupta during custody.

Meanwhile, the remaining accused — the four managers and Bharat Kohli — were remanded to 14 days of judicial custody.
