Anjuna police on Thursday arrested disqualified Arpora-Nagoa panchayat sarpanch Roshan Redkar in connection with the Birch by Romeo Lane nightclub fire case after he surrendered before the Judicial Magistrate First Class (JMFC) in Mapusa, a day after the High Court of Bombay at Goa rejected his anticipatory bail application.
The court remanded Redkar to seven-day police custody. Police had sought 14 days’ custody during the hearing.
Anjuna police also produced dismissed Arpora-Nagoa panchayat secretary Raghuvir Bagkar before the Mapusa JMFC, which extended his police custody by seven days.
It may be noted that 25 lives were lost in the blaze that occurred at the Arpora-based nightclub on December 6, 2025.
Redkar was booked by Anjuna police, along with Bagkar, for allegedly facilitating licences for the nightclub.
Redkar first approached the Additional District Court in Mapusa seeking pre-arrest bail, but the court rejected his plea.
He then challenged the order in the High Court, which also denied him relief.
The Directorate of Panchayat has already disqualified Redkar from the post of sarpanch after he was named in the FIR registered by police, said officials. Police have also arrested Bagkar, who is accused of colluding with Redkar to provide licences for the nightclub that allegedly flouted many rules.
Redkar has been booked under Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder), 125 (endangering human lives) and 287 (negligent conduct with respect to fire or combustible matter), according to officials.
Police have so far arrested nine persons, including Redkar, in connection with the fire at the nightclub.
