First-of-its-kind workshop-based career counselling series

Panaji: Over 35,000 students in higher secondary schools across the state are expected to benefit through Career Udaan, a first-of-its-kind, workshop-based career counselling series by the Goa State Higher Education Council (GSHEC).

“At a time when artificial intelligence (AI), automation, and rapidly evolving industry demands are redefining the global job market, this bold initiative seeks to empower students to look beyond traditional academic paths and prepare for a skill-oriented, competitive future,” Dr Mahadev Gawas, Project Director, Samarth e-Gov Project Unit, GSHEC said.

The initiative is being implemented across all 115 Higher Secondary Schools in Goa, aiming to reach every student at this crucial juncture of academic and career decision-making.

“In the first phase, students of 45 higher secondary schools (HSS) will be covered, while the remaining HSS will be covered in the second phase,” he said.

Stating that Goa is known as a hub for pharmaceuticals, tourism, hospitality, and allied medical sciences and is brimming with industry opportunities, Gawas said that these sectors are witnessing a growing demand for skilled professionals—while the supply remains inadequate.

“GSHEC’s strategy aims to bridge this gap by sensitising students to start preparing as early as Class 10, ensuring they’re equipped to pursue education and careers aligned with evolving market needs,” he said, adding that the Council emphasises early orientation towards competitive exams, interdisciplinary courses, and admissions in premier institutes like IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, ICFAI, and international universities.

The workshops feature a diverse panel of industry experts, academic leaders, entrepreneurs, and distinguished Goan youth currently studying in prestigious national and international institutions such as IITs, IIMs, AIIMS, and global universities.

“This will offer students a rare and invaluable chance to interact directly with high achievers, learn from their journeys, and gain practical, firsthand insights into a wide range of career paths,” he said.

Each session is carefully designed to be interactive, motivational, and deeply informative. Beyond merely listing career options, the workshops delve into emerging fields, skill-development pathways, competitive exam preparation, internship opportunities, personality development, and government schemes and financial assistance available through both the State and the Central Government.
