Mayor of the Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) Rohit Monserrate on Monday began the exercise of listening to people’s grievances. He will meet Panaji residents every Monday.
“Listening to people’s grievances is a good way
of getting feedback and immediate information on
the issues people have. People have spoken about various issues, but only 20 per cent of them are related to the corporation — licensing issues, house bifurcation. Most of these are related to other departments,” he said.
Monserrate also said that the CCP will deploy security personnel at public spaces.
“A lot of our public spaces do not have security guards, and these spaces are being misused. Through the Goa Human Resource Development Corporation, we have today received 13-14 security guards. Now, we will deploy them at public spaces. There are a lot of beggars, people who drink and cause nuisance. A lot of these spaces are in residential areas. We do not want to create a situation where people feel unsafe in their own areas,” he said.
Monserrate also said that the CCP has put on hold the decision to dismantle the mangrove boardwalk along the Rua de Ourem creek.
“As of now, we have put the removal on hold. I have a meeting with an association on Wednesday. They had spoken about renovating that area under CSR. If it can be saved, we want to save it. The property has started sinking, and the cost of maintaining it would be too expensive. But now that these people have
stepped forward, there is no reason for us to demolish it,” he said.
