Panaji: Maintaining that the deputation of school teachers for the forthcoming House-listing and Housing Census exercise will not affect school functioning, the Directorate of Education said it has completed preparations for the reopening of Classes VI to X and Class XII for the academic year 2026–27 from April 1.
Director of Education Shailesh Zingade on Monday said most teachers deputed for Census duty are from the primary level, and as Classes I to V will reopen only on June 6, their deployment will not disrupt classes. He added that some secondary-level teachers (Classes VI to X) have also been deputed, but they teach subjects such as computer science, drawing and physical education.
“Teachers handling core subjects for these classes will not be assigned Census duty,” he said, adding that classes from April 1 to 30 will conclude by 11.30 am.
The directorate had earlier announced that the academic year 2026–27 for Classes VI to X and Class XII will commence on April 1 in government, government-aided and unaided recognised schools.
Around 1,500 teaching and non-teaching staff will be deployed for the first phase of the Census exercise beginning April 16. In line with the implementation of the National Education Policy 2020.
Zingade said all academic responsibilities, including student assessment for primary teachers for the academic year 2025–26, will be completed by April 10, after which they will be deployed for Census duty from April 15 to May 15.
He also said that SCERT Goa has supplied textbooks for the classes reopening on April 1.
Meanwhile, around 1,500 teaching and non-teaching staff will be deployed for the first phase of the House-listing and Housing Census exercise beginning April 16, marking the first such exercise in the country in 16 years. The second phase, population enumeration, is scheduled for early 2027.
The Directorate of Census Operations and the Directorate of Planning, Statistics and Evaluation have completed training of charge and district officers, clerical and technical staff, and state-level master trainers, while training of field trainers is nearing completion. Field trainers will train enumerators and supervisors in the first week of April.
