Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday told the Assembly that 438 individuals had registered under the ‘Scheme for Providing Employment in Government to Children of Freedom Fighters’, of which 236 have been provided jobs during his tenure. Forty applicants were found ineligible.

“Only 25 jobs remain under this quota and they will be given by December 19, 2025,” he said. He also said that the scheme does not extend to grandchildren of freedom fighters and only covers ‘C’ and ‘D’ category government posts, not ‘A’ or ‘B’.

Earlier, Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao urged the government to clear the recruitment backlog under this quota. “It is nearly 64 years since liberation, and we still have a backlog in recruitment of children of freedom fighters,” said Alemao.

Mandrem MLA Jit Arolkar said many children of freedom fighters are now over 50 years old. “With only eight years of service left, how will they get promotions and pensions?” he asked.
