‘Unauthorised security agencies to be closed down’

Panaji: Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday  said  innovation, involvement, and investment form the foundation for the goal of Atmanirbhar Bharat and Swayampurna Goa.

Addressing the 79th Independence Day state-level function in Panaji, Sawant highlighted the ongoing efforts to empower local artisans, particularly in rural areas, through initiatives such as ‘One District, One Product’, the ‘Unity Mall’, and the upcoming ‘Kunbi Village’ project.

“We are transforming our rich heritage into economic opportunities,” he stated, disclosing that the much-anticipated Kunbi Village project in Sanguem taluka will be completed within the next three months.

The Goa Regularisation of Unauthorised Construction (Amendment) Act, 2025 aims at simplifying the process of legalising constructions, he said.

“This marks a step forward in our commitment to the ease of doing business,” he said.

The Chief Minister called upon comunidade office-bearers and other institutions to support the legalisation of homes occupied by residents for over 40 years.  He clarified that this move aims to secure legitimate housing rights for long-time residents and not to promote illegal constructions, assuring  that safeguards will be implemented to prevent future irregularities.

To maintain law and order, Sawant declared that security agencies operating without government registration will be shut down, as part of a broader strategy to prevent gang-related violence in the state.

On the economic front, Sawant said that Goa is fostering a business-friendly environment rooted in transparency and opportunity, where  ideas can flourish into successful enterprises.

Turning to the health sector, he said the state is bolstering  healthcare  by inducting more medical professionals, upgrading healthcare facilities, and expanding specialised services to ensure better care for all Goans.

“We remain committed to a healthier and cleaner Goa,” he added, noting that Sankhali and Panaji have been recognised under Swachh Survekshan 2025.

The Chief Minister  also spoke about the common hazardous waste facility which will help strengthen the state’s waste management system.

On tourism, Sawant highlighted Goa’s status as a leading destination that blends nature, spirituality, and warmth.

“Our land continues to welcome the world with open arms,” he said.

Sawant also emphasised the importance of the scheduled tribes reservation bill recently passed by the Parliament, stating that it will ensure political representation for Goa’s tribal communities.
