Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Friday inaugurated six projects under Smart City Mission (SCM) worth Rs 135 crore including the Smart City headquarters and ‘Pedestrian Spine’ at Patto.

“More than 35 projects have been completed under the Smart City Mission in Panaji. While the works were going on, people had to face lot of hardships, there were accidents too for which I express regret and grief,” Sawant told reporters after inaugurating the Smart City headquarters.

He said that 18 EV charging stations have been inaugurated in Panaji city after one month of successful trial run, under which several vehicles were charged
to run 5 lakh km.

“The charging stations were installed on PPP basis. Due to this, 32 tonnes of carbon emissions were reduced. This will be a revenue generation project for smart city,” Sawant said.

Sawant said that under the 24×7 water supply with SCADA for Panaji project, 3000 houses will be installed with smart water meters and in future another 6,000 households will be provided smart meters.

This modernised water supply system with SCADA-based monitoring enables round-the-clock water supply, improved efficiency, and better resource management. Additionally, advanced technology ensures reliable and sustainable water services for residents.

He said that pedestrian spine and revitalisation of Patto area will be like an entertainment park for the people in and around Panaji. The project has a skating park, climbing wall, children’s park, bandstand and shopping pavilion.

“There will be small shops for revenue generation. It will be like an entertainment park for the people in and around Panaji and others too. We will monetise this project through Smart City,” Sawant said.

Sawant also laid the foundation stone for widening of ferry ramps for Ro-Ro ferry boats at Diwar and St Pedro. The work on the same is expected to start this week.

“The state government has plans to launch Ro-Ro ferryboats on this route by November, this year. It was a long pending demand of the people from Diwar,”
Sawant said.

Sawant said that the traditional fishermen will benefit from the new upgraded fishermen’s wharf at Ribandar.

The existing fisherman’s wharf at Ribandar has been upgraded with improved berthing and operational facilities.
