The Congress on Thursday launched its Sangathan Srijan Abhiyan to elect new district Congress committees (DCCs) as part of restructuring the grassroots organisation in the newly formed Kushavati district.

All India Congress committee observer and joint treasurer Vijay Inder Singla, who has been placed in charge of the district, said the exercise is aimed at inducting committed workers into organisational roles.

“I will be visiting all eight segments in Kushavati in the next two days, meeting all office bearers, social organisations, cadres, and workers, so that more hardworking, loyal people without criminal backgrounds are given responsibilities at mandal, booth, panchayat, block, and district levels,” he said.

Singla said the initiative would give greater powers to district presidents. “This initiative is about building a stronger, more accountable, and people connected party structure starting from the district Congress committees,” he said.

He said the new DCC presidents will be given a lot of powers, but with accountability.

“They will be monitored for three months. Those not doing well will be replaced. It is not like earlier times when DCC presidents were appointed and continued for years without working,” said Singla.

Over two days, Singla, along with South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes and party leaders including Amarnath Panjikar and Pratiksha Khalap, will meet block members and office bearers from Ponda, Madkai, Shiroda, Curchorem, Sanvordem, Sanguem, Quepem and Canacona.

He will conduct one-on-one interactions before proposing six names to the central leadership.
