The Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) has written to Chief Secretary Dr V Candavelou requesting that an appeal be filed against the order of acquittal in the power scam case involving cabinet minister Mauvin Godinho and others.
In the letter, GPCC president Amit Patkar stated that the acquittal raises serious questions about the manner in which the case was pursued, as it is evident from perusal of judgement that no substantial or proper evidence was effectively placed before the court to establish the culpability of the accused.
He said that they will be constrained to take the appropriate legal course if the state government fails to file an appeal against the order.
According to Patkar, the alleged power scam case is of immense public importance, involving large-scale corruption, misuse of public resources, and a direct impact on public trust in government institutions.
“Allowing such a judgment to go unchallenged will set a dangerous precedent and erode public confidence in the rule of law and
in the state’s commitment
to fighting corruption,” Patkar said.
Requesting that the Chief Secretary file an appeal against the acquittal order before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, Patkar said, “Review the lapses in the investigation/prosecution of the case and ensure that such shortcomings do not recur. Also initiate action against the persons who have committed lapses in the process.” He further demanded to “constitute a special legal team to pursue the matter with utmost seriousness, considering the gravity of the allegations.”
