Margao: Margao Municipal Council (MMC) councillor Mahesh Amonkar, a member of the ruling group, has alleged procedural irregularities in the tendering process for sopo collection contract and called for a special meeting to address the issue.

He has also demanded that the current sopo tender be cancelled immediately.

“Serious irregularities have occurred in the sopo tender procedure. The council administration did not follow proper protocol during the tender process for the sopo contract allotment,” said Amonkar, alleging that one bidder’s application, initially rejected on December 25, was reconsidered the next day based on a document from a previous bid.

He said such discrepancies compromised transparency and has raised questions about the integrity of the procedure.

He further alleged that an MMC engineer was providing misleading information to the chief officer, contributing to confusion in the tender’s management.

He has appealed to Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and Urban Development Minister Vishwajit Rane to intervene, while also demanding for the reissuance of the sopo in adherence to proper regulations.
