Mapusa

The additional district and sessions court at Mapusa on Friday directed former journalist Tarun Tejpal to surrender before the court on Monday, September 14, in the alleged rape case.

The court was hearing an application filed by Tejpal seeking appropriate directions as September 14 and 15 are public holidays on account of Ganesh Chaturthi.

After hearing his counsel, the court directed Tejpal to surrender on Monday.

The Supreme Court had directed Tejpal to surrender by September 21, 2026, after rejecting his plea seeking exemption from surrender in the alleged rape case. The apex court had also directed him to submit a surrender certificate.

Earlier, the High Court of Bombay at Goa had, in August, convicted Tejpal and sentenced him to 10 years’ rigorous imprisonment.

Tejpal had challenged the conviction before the apex court. However, the top court refused to grant relief and directed him to surrender before September 21.
