Crackdown ordered on illegal political banners across N Goa

North Goa Collector and district election officer Ankit Yadav has ordered the immediate removal of unauthorised political banners, posters and hoardings across the district.

The action was issued through two communications dated March 25. The Collectorate said there was widespread display of campaign material on public infrastructure without permission, including government buildings, public walls, electric poles and road signage.

Yadav addressed communications to the Directorate of Municipal Administration and the Directorate of Panchayat, and issued a memorandum to Deputy Collectors and Sub-Divisional Magistrates of Tiswadi, Bardez, Bicholim, Pernem and Sattari.

“Such displays violate provisions of the Goa Defacement of Property Act, 1988, the Goa Municipal Act, 1968, and the Goa Panchayat Raj Act, 1984,” stated the order.

Local authorities have been directed to identify and remove unauthorised writings and displays from public property. The Collectorate said the proliferation of such material had led to defacement of public infrastructure and required immediate attention.

Yadav said that authorities concerned must ensure compliance and restore public spaces by clearing unauthorised material.

A compliance report on the action taken has been sought within seven days.
