Panaji: In the light of the recent US decision to deport illegal immigrants following President Donald Trump’s policies, the Goa Commission for NRI Affairs on Wednesday reassured Goans in the United States not to panic.

Goa’s Commissioner for NRI Affairs Narendra Sawaikar and Director of NRI Affairs Anthony D’Souza, confirmed to The Navhind Times that the panel has not yet received any requests for assistance from Goans currently in the US over deportation.

The panel also clarified that no official communication or requests have been received from the Union Minister for External Affairs on this matter at this time.

Sawaikar emphasised, “Unless we receive complaints or requests, we cannot comment further. However, we are prepared to assist if any Goans in the US face difficulties due to the recent deportation decision of  the Trump administration.”

He urged Goans living in the that country not to panic, stating that if any Indian citizens encounter problems  due to the new policies, the central government is ready to facilitate their legitimate return.

D’Souza added that a few individuals had approached him with inquiries about returning to Goa should problems arise.

However, he noted that no formal requests have been made thus far.

“We are ready to act when we receive communication from Goans in the US facing issues related to the recent developments,” D’Souza stated.

The Trump administration has begun deporting people who are in the US illegally or without proper documentation.
