Valpoi/Pernem
Eid ul-Fitr was celebrated with devotion and communal harmony in Valpoi, as hundreds of members of the Muslim community gathered at the Eidgah ground to offer special prayers, marking the end of the holy month
of Ramadan.
From the early hours of the morning, the Eidgah premises came alive with devotees dressed in traditional attire. Worshippers offered namaz in unison, praying for peace, prosperity and well-being for all.
After the prayers, the celebrations turned festive as people greeted one another with embraces and exchanged “Eid Mubarak” wishes. The spirit of brotherhood and togetherness was evident as families, friends and well-wishers came together to share the joy of the occasion.
A strong display of communal harmony, for which Valpoi is known, was visible. Members of the Hindu community visited the homes of their Muslim neighbours to extend greetings and join in the festivities. This reflected the town’s secular fabric, where people of different faiths coexist peacefully and celebrate each other’s festivals with mutual respect.
Local residents expressed pride in this tradition of unity. “Eid is not just a festival for Muslims here; it is a celebration for everyone in Valpoi. The love and respect among communities is what makes this place special,” said a resident.
The celebrations also included the sharing of traditional delicacies, adding to the festive cheer. Children and elders alike were seen enjoying the day, reflecting the message of joy, gratitude and compassion that Eid symbolises. The peaceful celebration once again highlighted Valpoi’s cultural values and its example of unity in diversity.
In Pernem, Muslims offered prayers at the mosque in Konadi, while several Hindus and Catholics visited the homes of their Muslim friends to extend Eid greetings, reflecting communal harmony..
