Panaji: The Enough is Enough group has filed a caveat in the Supreme Court over the mega casino vessel issue after the High Court of Bombay at Goa stayed the entry of the 112-metre new ship into Panaji port. The petitioners apprehend that the casino firm may approach the Supreme Court.

The PIL before the High Court challenges permissions granted for replacement of the existing 70-seat casino vessel (M V Royale Flotel) belonging to Deltin in the Mandovi with a new vessel (M V Deltin Royale) having a capacity of 2,000 passengers.

By filing the caveat, the activists have sought to ensure that they are heard before any order is passed by the apex court in the matter.

The High Court had observed on Wednesday that ā€œconsidering that, as of today, the vessel does not possess a Certificate of Survey, we deem it appropriate to direct that the vessel in question shall not sail into the Panaji Port, i.e. in the River Mandovi, without obtaining all the required certificationsā€.

The petitioner, Enough is Enough, has contended before the High Court that there is no provision in law for replacement of a casino vessel and that any new vessel must obtain a fresh licence based on passenger capacity to operate as a casino.
