A massive fire broke out in the early hours of Saturday at a scrapyard in Ashewada-Betoda, triggering panic among nearby residents. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly six hours, deploying 20 water tankers to bring it under control. The exact cause of the incident is yet to be determined.

Upon receiving the alert, fire and emergency service teams from Ponda, Kundaim, and Margao rushed to the site and worked to bring the blaze under control.

According to the scrapyard owner, property valued at approximately Rs 50 lakh was destroyed in the blaze.

Although fire brigade personnel managed to bring the fire under control after battling the flames
for several hours, smoke continued to billow until late evening.

Raising the issue of thick smoke spreading across nearby areas, the locals expressed concerns about safety and air quality. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported.

Authorities are expected to carry out a detailed inquiry to establish the cause of the fire and evaluate the full extent of the damage.
