Panaji

Retired Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court, Justice Ferdino Rebello, who is leading the Enough is Enough movement, said the group will hold a public meeting at Azad Maidan in Panaji after the monsoon season.

“The next two months will be monsoon season. Hold meetings at the village level and be ready. After the monsoons we will meet at Azad Maidan, whether there is permission or no permission. We will come together. We will not step back. You (Chief Minister) say bhivpachi garaz na. We will not get scared. We are ready to move forward,” Rebello said.

The Corporation of the City of Panaji (CCP) had withdrawn permission granted to the Enough is Enough movement for its public meeting at Azad Maidan on May 30, stating that the government was setting up an exhibition at the venue to mark Goa Statehood Day.

Following the withdrawal, Enough is Enough decided to hold the meeting virtually.

Rebello said Enough is Enough will approach Governor Pusapati Ashok Gajapathi Raju seeking the summoning of a session of the Goa Legislative Assembly to discuss and pass the Goa Protection of Agricultural Lands Bill, 2026, drafted by him.

Copies of the draft
Bill were submitted to leaders of six political parties and three Independent MLAs ahead of the Assembly session.

Rebello also urged all political parties to write to the Chief Minister seeking the withdrawal of cases filed against NGOs and activists.

“For many years our NGOs and activists have been fighting to protect Goa, Goans and its culture, and not for their personal benefit, and you are filing cases against them. Why don’t you file cases against corrupt officials and corrupt ministers? Why do you single out our activists? They are fighting for Goa,” Rebello said.

“We urge all political parties… Please write to the Chief Minister to withdraw all cases against our activists. They may be from Sanguem, Canacona, Siridao, Arambol or Karapur, and they are fighting for their rights. All these cases against them must be withdrawn. How long are they going to fight? You all who are MLAs are not from outside Goa. You are among us,” Rebello said.

He said the movement had also demanded budgetary provision for a study on the carrying capacity of villages.

“Till date it has not been done. The government is spending crores of rupees on festivals, but it has no money to protect the people of Goa,” he said.
