Panaji: The Economic Offence Cell (EOC) of the Goa Police has filed a chargesheet against three accused in a case involving the alleged cheating of investors from Goa of Rs 2.48 crore through an unregulated deposit investment scheme linked to ‘Oris Coin’, a suspected cryptocurrency scam.
Police have filed the chargesheet against Ravi Thakur, Rahul Jadhav and Rahul Khurana. However, the fourth accused, Tarun Trikha, has not been named in the chargesheet. The matter will come up for hearing on August 24.
According to the police FIR, the case was registered on the complaint of Nilesh Karbotkar from Mayem, Bicholim. The alleged offences took place between December 1, 2022, and January 1, 2025, during which the accused allegedly hatched a criminal conspiracy and created unregulated deposit investment schemes through an online platform called “Oris Coin”.
Police said the accused visited various locations across Goa to promote the scheme and explain the investment plans to investors. Police said the accused induced investors to put money into the unregulated deposit investment scheme by promising high returns.
Subsequently, investors put their hard-earned money into the schemes through cash and online modes. The accused failed to return the invested maturity amount, thereby allegedly cheating the complainant and many other investors to the tune of Rs 2.48 crore, police said.
