Valpoi roads flooded as cabling works puncture major water pipe

Valpoi: A major water pipeline was damaged during underground power cabling work on Thursday evening, leading to loss of significant amount of water. The Valpoi-Honda main road and the road leading to Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya were left flooded.

The incident occurred near the transformer opposite Government High School, Valpoi, when workers accidentally struck the pipeline while drilling.

â€œWe were not told about the work. At least the contractor or authority concerned should have called us to know the location of the main pipeline,” said a staff member of the Public Works Department.

The ongoing underground cabling work has disrupted normal life in the area, with residents complaining of delays, unattended debris, and poor site management. Locals alleged that the contractor left the site without clearing the mud, causing dust-related inconvenience to nearby homes.

“Everywhere they have dug up the road and footpaths. Even the machinery is parked along the roadside for many days, disrupting traffic,” said a resident.
