Mapusa: The Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) has ordered the closure of two snack manufacturing units and the suspension of operations at a bakery in a recent inspection.

During the surprise checks, which were part of the ongoing enforcement drive in Bardez and Pernem talukas, FDA officials discovered that two manufacturing units, which supply Indian snacks to several retail outlets, were operating in unsanitary conditions.

The units were immediately ordered to cease operations. Similarly, a bakery was instructed to suspend its operations due to hygiene violations.

In addition to these actions, a restaurant in Parra was also found in breach of hygiene norms and was directed to suspend its operations.

The FDA, which is also cracking down on fake FSSAI licenses, found that wholesale suppliers in Karaswada were operating with counterfeit licenses, allegedly obtained through a Mumbai-based consultant. The vendors, operating in Karaswada and Dhargal, were issued stop notices and were instructed to file a complaint against the consultant.

The FDA through multiple drives across Goa is enforcing food safety and hygiene standards. The crackdown was led by FDA director Shweta Desai and supported by designated officer Richard Noronha, Amit Mandrekar, Lenin De Sa, and Nousin Mulla.
