Margao

Acting on a complaint, the Food and Drugs Administration (FDA) on Wednesday seized and
disposed of approximately 600 improperly sealed packets of chicken in
Margao, valued at around Rs 3 lakh.

FDA officials from South Goa responded to a complaint stating that a vehicle from Hubballi had transported chicken packets to Margao under improper storage conditions and without mandatory label declarations. The vehicle had reportedly offloaded the stock at a location opposite the KTC bus stand near Madel.

During the inspection, FDA officials found that the pickup vehicle was not adequately insulated and the chicken packets were stored in unhygienic conditions. Furthermore, there were no valid purchase bills or
FSSAI licence, and the chicken packets lacked proper labelling.

The premises where the stock was unloaded also did not have an FSSAI licence. Officials said that the site was associated with the sales and servicing of radiators, AC condensers, fan motors, and oil coolers, and not approved for food storage or distribution.

Officials said they found around 600 packets, each containing two kilograms of chicken worth Rs 500 per packet, stored in a freezer. The entire consignment, valued at approximately
Rs 3 lakh, was disposed of in the interest of public health with assistance from the Margao Municipal Council.
