Panaji: Amid prevalent conditions along Indian borders, the Fisheries Department has asked all the fishermen in the state to carry out fishing activities within the territorial waters (12 nautical miles) of the state.

In an advisory issued to all cooperative societies and associations, the Fisheries Department said, “All the fishing vessel owners are instructed to provide complete details of each vessel’s crew members venturing into the sea to the fisheries officer or fisheries surveyor in the respective area.”

The fishermen have been asked to obtain a fishing pass before venturing out for fishing in the sea and report to the concerned fisheries officer or fisheries surveyor upon return.

Additionally, they have been asked to ensure that the transponder is switched on while venturing into the sea for continuous tracking and safety purposes.

“Stay vigilant for any suspicious activity on fishing jetties or blocks and immediately report such incidents to the concerned fisheries officer, fisheries surveyor, the nearest coastal police station, or the local police station,” the advisory said,

asking fishermen to provide assistance to department officers and other line department officials whenever required, to ensure effective safety and security measures.
