Mapusa

Police arrested five tourists from Karnataka for allegedly creating a disturbance and restraining an IRB police constable by snatching his car keys and engaging in a verbal altercation at Hutatma
Chowk, Mapusa.

According to police, the incident occurred on Monday at around 10.15 am near the Maruti temple. An IRB constable attached to the Mapusa traffic cell was travelling
from the police station to Colvale in his car when he stopped at Hutatma Chowk due to a
traffic jam.

Police said the five tourists, who were travelling in a car behind the constable, became upset after he halted his vehicle. They allegedly got out of their car, knocked on the window of the constable’s vehicle and questioned him for stopping. The tourists are also accused of snatching the constable’s car keys and attempting to leave the spot by reversing
their vehicle.

A crowd gathered at the spot and assisted the constable by stopping the tourists’ car and compelling them to return the keys.

On receiving information, Mapusa police rushed to the spot, detained the five tourists and later arrested them under Section 151 of the Code of Criminal Procedure.

The accused were identified as Anil Rajan Gowda (33), Manu Range Gowda (30), Naveen Swami Gowda (32), Sagar Range Gowda (25) and Avinash Swami Gowda (28), all residents of Dodda, Hassan
district, Karnataka.
