The Goa Petrol Dealers’ Association has reassured the public that there is no shortage of fuel in the state and urged people not to indulge in panic buying, even as long queues continue to be seen at petrol pumps across Goa.

In a press statement issued on Thursday, Association president Narhar Thakur stated that adequate stocks of petrol and diesel are available with all major oil marketing companies, including Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL), Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) and Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL). “Fuel supply chains are functioning normally, ensuring uninterrupted availability across the state,” he said.

The association cautioned the public against storing petrol or diesel in cans or unauthorised
containers, stating that such practices violate safety norms laid down by
the Petroleum and Explosives Safety Organisation (PESO) and pose a serious fire hazard.

Appealing for calm, the association urged citizens to avoid panic buying and purchase fuel only as per regular requirements.

“There is no need to hoard fuel. Unnecessary storage can create artificial shortages and compromise public safety,” Thakur said.

Despite these assurances, people continued to rush to petrol pumps over the past few days, leading to long queues in several parts of the state, including on Thursday.
