Mapusa: A week after the daring dacoity in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa police Tuesday arrested two Bangladesh nationals for their alleged involvement in the crime.
Police arrested Raju B (27) and Safikul Ami (37) from Bengaluru.
Police said the two Bangladesh nationals are connected to the six main accused. They said the duo conspired with the main accused to commit the dacoity.
It may be noted that a gang of six armed and masked robbers had broken into a bungalow of a prominent doctor in Ganeshpuri, Mapusa, in the early hours of October 7. They tied up the family members, including the elderly mother of the doctor, and decamped with cash and gold jewellery worth approximately Rs 35 lakh.
The dacoity, which had shocked the residents of Bardez, occurred between 3 am and 5 am. Police had said one of the robbers entered the house by cutting through the iron grills of a window.
Despite several teams being sent to the neighbouring states, police have not yet been successful in nabbing the main accused involved in the crime.
According to sources, the main accused, who are also suspected to be from Bangladesh, had prepared the plan with the help of the arrested duo, who provided detailed information regarding the entry and exit of the bungalow.
After committing the crime, the main accused had fled in the doctor’s car and later abandoned it in Panaji.
The accused later hired a vehicle and travelled to Belagavi and further to Bijapur. Subsequently, they proceeded to Hyderabad and are now suspected to have crossed the border.
