The Goa government has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI) to collaborate on the revival of Khazan lands and the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Natural Resource Management and Ecotourism in the state.

“The Centre will focus on coastal and marine resource management, promotion of the Blue Economy, climate change mitigation, biodiversity conservation, agriculture, livelihood enhancement, water resource conservation, eco-tourism, sustainable and renewable energy, mining, and related sectors,” said Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.

The MoU was signed on Wednesday at the Mantralaya in the presence of Sawant, Secretary for Environment Anil Kumar Mishra, TERI director general Vibha Dhawan, and other officials.

Sawant said TERI would provide technical support and capacity-building for the state government’s initiatives. “I am confident that this collaborative effort will achieve its goals and significantly contribute to the sustainable development of Swayampurna, Viksit Goa,” he said.

TERI director general Dhawan said the institute works on region-specific needs. “TERI will support Goa with its 50 years of experience in sustainable development, including the creation of green cities. She added that a plan of action has already been submitted to the state government,” he said.
