In a tragic incident that occurred at Guirim on Tuesday, a two-wheeler rider died after coming under the wheels of a passenger bus near the flyover.

The deceased has been identified as Narayan Abhyankar, a resident of Colvale, who served as Under Secretary in the state’s law department. Mapusa police have arrested the bus driver Premanand Kanoji.

According to police, the accident occurred around 10.45 am near the Green Park Hotel junction. The deceased was proceeding along the flyover towards Porvorim, while a passenger bus was proceeding along the service road from Mapusa to Panaji.

Police said the bus hit the deceased’s two-wheeler at the point where the service road meets National Highway 66. Due to the impact, the rider fell on the ground and came under the wheels of the bus.

He died on the spot, said police. Bus driver, Kanoji, who was allegedly trying to flee the accident scene was caught by the alert locals and handed over to the police.

Traffic was disrupted along the highway following the accident. On receipt of information, Mapusa police rushed to the spot, conducted panchanama and shifted the body to Goa Medical College and Hospital at Bambolim. The body was later handed over to the family.

Abhyankar is survived by his wife and children. Mapusa police are further investigating the case.
