Light rain and thundershowers are likely over Goa in the next couple of days, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issuing a yellow alert for the state.
The weather office has warned of thunderstorm and lightning accompanied by gusty winds reaching speeds of 30 to 40 kmph at isolated locations on March 18 and 19. The anticipated weather shift has been attributed to moisture-laden easterly winds originating from the Bay of Bengal.
Director of IMD Nahush Kulkarni has indicated that rainfall is likely to be concentrated over the state’s eastern belt and hilly regions, with areas such as Bicholim, Valpoi and Dharbandora expected to witness the most activity. These localised events are typically expected to occur during late afternoon and may persist through the evening and night. In light of the forecast, the IMD has urged the public to take necessary precautions against lightning strikes.
Prior to this forecast, dry weather prevailed across the state, with Panaji recently recording a maximum temperature of 33 degree Celsius and Mormugao seeing the mercury dip to a minimum of 23 degree Celsius.
