Panaji: Goa has recorded steady progress in rooftop solar adoption under the PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana, even as it remains a small player compared to larger states, according to data placed in the Rajya Sabha.

Between February and December 2024, Goa received 727 applications and completed 397 installations. In 2025, applications rose to 1,885 and installations crossed the 1,000 mark (1,018). In the first two months of 2026, the state has already logged 855 applications and 484 installations, indicating sustained interest.

Despite its smaller size, Goa’s performance stands out for consistent year-on-year growth and a better implementation ratio.

Experts said that the state has significant untapped potential, particularly in urban households and tourism-linked infrastructure.

While Goa’s absolute numbers are modest, its conversion rate from applications to installations remains relatively strong compared to several larger states where execution has lagged.

Maharashtra recorded over 6.7 lakh applications in 2025, translating into 2.87 lakh installations. Gujarat has a high installation ratio with over 2.7 lakh systems installed in 2025.

Uttar Pradesh received more than 6.3 lakh applications in 2025, with installations standing at 2.66 lakh, and Andhra Pradesh saw over 7.8 lakh applications with 76,199 installations during the same period.

Southern states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu demonstrated balanced growth, combining moderate demand with relatively efficient execution.

Nationally, the scheme saw rapid expansion, with over 33.66 lakh applications and 15.01 lakh installations recorded in 2025, marking a sharp increase from 2024.
