Panaji: With the Union government encouraging students to gain work experience to improve employment prospects, a workshop was held in Panaji for companies on the Prime Ministerâs Internship Scheme (PMIS).
During the orientation workshop, company representatives were briefed on the objectives, eligibility criteria, implementation framework, and benefits of the PMIS. âInternships are not merely a bridge between education and employment; they are an investment in the future workforce. Goa has already shown promising results under the Prime Ministerâs Internship Scheme, and through this partnership with industry, Goa-IDC and the Directorate of Higher Education, we are committed to creating more opportunities for the youth of the state,â Registrar of Companies (ROC) Goa Trupti Sharma. The Goa Industrial Development Corporation (GIDC) organised the
workshop in partnership with the Registrar of Companies (ROC), Goa, and the Directorate of Higher Education, with the aim of increasing industry participation in the scheme.
GIDC Managing Director Pravimal Abhishek said the PMIS presents a unique opportunity to bridge the
gap between education and industry by providing young talent with practical exposure and workplace experience. âGoa-IDC is committed to facilitating greater industry participation in this initiative and encouraging companies across Goaâs industrial ecosystem to contribute towards building a skilled and future-ready workforce.
Such collaborations will not only benefit students but also help industries identify and nurture emerging talent,â he said.
âThe orientation programme will enhance youth employability and promote skill development. We encourage all eligible companies to register on the PMIS portal,â director of higher education Bhushan K Savaikar said.
Introduced in Budget 2024â25, the PMIS aims to connect academic learning with industry requirements by offering structured and paid internship opportunities to youth. The scheme is implemented through a centralised digital platform and provides interns with a monthly stipend of Rs 9,000, including Rs 8,100 contributed by the Central government and Rs 900 by participating companies. Interns also receive a one-time incidental grant of Rs 6,000 through direct benefit transfer (DBT).
Also present were PMIS nodal officer and deputy director, Ministry of Corporate Affairs, Rujuta Bankar, PMIS state nodal officer Prof. Niyan Marchon.
