Panaji
The Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress on Saturday held a protest march in Panaji, condemning the rising cases of crimes against women and children and calling for urgent government intervention.
Mahila Congress president Pratiksha Khalap said the situation has turned into a serious social crisis, adding that Goa is increasingly gaining notoriety for crime rather than its traditional image as a tourist destination.
The organisation demanded the resignation of Sushant Naik, councillor of Curchorem-Cacora Municipal Council and father of the accused in the Curchorem obscene videos case, citing moral responsibility and concerns over possible interference in
the investigation.
The Mahila Congress also called for stronger government commitment towards women’s safety and welfare.
Goa Pradesh Congress Committee president Amit Patkar described the situation as “grave” and claimed that at least nine rape cases are being officially recorded every month in
the state.
He called for stronger institutional measures, including counselling support for school students, particularly in areas where minors are reportedly being exploited.
