Mapusa : Mapusa police have solved a blind murder case involving an unidentified body found with an ear cut off in a field at Morod. Police have arrested the accused, Savangkhoba Singh (45), a native of Assam, for allegedly killing his friend in a fit of anger over a dispute related to the distribution of chicken.
Although the identity of the deceased remains unknown, Mapusa police said they acted on human intelligence to trace and apprehend the accused from Morod on Friday after a chase.
Police said the body was found on March 28. Initially, police registered a case of unnatural death and sent the body for post-mortem. Following the post-mortem report, a murder case was registered.
During the investigation, it was found that the accused and the deceased were friends.
On the day of the incident, they were sitting near the new Mapusa Kadamba bus stand,
where they were consuming chicken and liquor. Police said an argument broke out between them over the quantity of chicken served, with the accused upset about receiving a lesser portion. The verbal altercation escalated into a fight.
In a fit of anger, the accused allegedly attacked the victim with a bottle before fleeing the scene. Despite sustaining injuries, the victim reportedly walked towards a nearby field, where he lay down. Police suspect that the victim succumbed to excessive bleeding due to lack of timely medical treatment. Police said further investigation is underway.
