Panaji
Panaji recorded its hottest day of April 2026 on Saturday, with the maximum temperature rising to 35.4°C, which is 2.1 degrees above the normal of 33.3°C.
The reading is the highest recorded in the state this month and indicates a spell of sustained pre-monsoon heat across Goa.
According to meteorological observations, temperatures have been rising steadily since April 4, with little respite, making the past fortnight one of the more uncomfortable periods of the season. Officials noted that while such temperatures are not unprecedented in April, their early occurrence this year is significant. Similar levels were last recorded on April 28, 2021, and earlier on April 19, 2019, suggesting that such heat in early April is relatively uncommon.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast dry and predominantly sunny conditions across both North and South Goa districts until April 17.
However, some moderation in temperatures is expected over the coming week, with maximum temperatures likely to range between 33°C and 34°C, which will remain at or slightly above normal levels.
Meteorologists have cautioned that the prevailing conditions, marked by above-normal temperatures and minimal cloud cover, could increase the risk of heat stress, particularly for outdoor workers, the elderly and
children.
Residents have been advised to avoid prolonged exposure during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated and follow official advisories as weather conditions continue to evolve.
