GPCC on Wednesday staged a protest outside the Enforcement Directorate (ED) office in Patto, Panaji, denouncing the chargesheet filed by the ED against Congress leaders in the National Herald case.

The chargesheet, filed before a special court in New Delhi, accuses the Congress leaders of allegedly laundering Rs 988 crore. GPCC leaders alleged the move is politically motivated and aimed at harassing the leadership of the Indian National Congress.

“The ED chargesheet filed on April 9, 2025 – on the very last day of the 365-day window – is not a legal action based on facts, but a politically motivated attempt to harass the leadership of the Indian National Congress,” said GPCC president Amit Patkar. “This move reflects the desperation, vindictiveness, and moral bankruptcy of the Modi government.”

Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao alleged that the ED has repeatedly targeted only opposition MLAs, MPs, and leaders over the past ten years. “ED should work in the interest of the country and not in the interest of BJP,” he said.

Alemao also challenged the BJP to take action on alleged scams under its own governance. “If BJP is really concerned about its slogan of ‘Na Khaunga, Na Khaane Dunga’, then they should file cases in the Kala Academy corruption. File cases in the Green Cess Collection scam, casino fees collection scam, Smart City scam, and many other scams which have taken place,” he said.

Meanwhile, Goa Pradesh Mahila Congress president Pratiksha Khalap condemned the chargesheet as “a blatant example of vindictive politics and abuse of power.”
