The Crime Branch of Goa Police has arrested a 23-year-old Nigerian national, and seized drugs worth over Rs 1.64 crore during a raid at Parra on Friday night. The accused, Nnanyelugo Abasili, had entered India on a student visa on April 28, said Crime Branch SP Rahul Gupta.

Abasili was residing in a rented room when the raid was conducted.

“From his possession, police seized various narcotic and psychotropic substances, including 60 grams of cocaine, 99 grams of brown heroin, 1.123 kg of ecstasy tablets (approximately 2,400 tablets), 19 grams of crystal MDMA, and Rs 70,000 in Indian currency. The total seizure is valued at Rs 1,64,94,050,” said Gupta.

The raid followed a lead shared by the Telangana Anti Narcotics Bureau. After a week-long surveillance by Crime Branch PIs Tushar Lotlikar and Laxi Amonkar, Abasili was arrested by a police team led by PI Hiru Kavlekar and LPSI Pragati Malik. An FIR has been registered under relevant sections of the NDPS Act.

Gupta said Goa Police have intensified their crackdown on drug trafficking in 2025. “Total drug seizures by Goa Police this year have reached Rs 68.36 crore, with 74 arrests. Of this, the Crime Branch alone is responsible for Rs 57 crore in seizures and 15 arrests, including two busted international drug trafficking networks,” he said.

In a related development, Mapusa Police arrested two more foreign nationals on Friday—24-year-old Nigerian national Chigozie Ezekiel and 29-year-old Ivory Coast national Ismale Baba—for staying in India without valid documents. Gupta said it is likely the two are connected to the same drug trafficking network.

Gupta appealed to the public to report any drug-related activity or suspicious individuals. “You can call me directly on 7875756017. Your identity will be kept confidential,”
he said.

He also urged landlords to verify the credentials of foreign tenants. “Owners must remain alert and carry out proper tenant verification. It’s also important to monitor the activities of foreign nationals staying in your premises,” he said, adding, “Our goal is to ensure that foreigners visiting Goa do not engage in any illegal activities.”
