Bicholim: A 55-year-old woman, Shaila Ghadi, was allegedly murdered inside her house at Chikane-Kudne village in Sankhali on Tuesday afternoon. The accused, Sagar Rawal, a resident of Sawantwadi in Maharashtra, fled with her mobile phone and allegedly informed her daughters about the crime.

Police said that the accused was known to the family and that the murder followed an argument during which he allegedly assaulted her and smashed her head against a wall, resulting in her death.

According to police, the deceased lived in Chikane-Kudne with her three children, including two daughters and a son. The accused was reportedly a friend of one of her daughters and frequently visited the house.

Police stated that disputes and quarrels had reportedly taken place earlier between the accused and the family. In a previous incident, Rawal had allegedly vandalised the house, following which a complaint was lodged at Bicholim police station. Police stated that Rawal visited the house again around 2.30 pm on Tuesday when no one else was present and an argument allegedly broke out between him and the deceased.

A mobile forensic team and dog squad were also deployed and evidence was collected from the spot. Further inquiry reportedly revealed that the accused had also allegedly stolen the gold chain worn by the deceased before fleeing.
