In a major crackdown on food safety violations, the North Goa Magistrate has imposed heavy monetary penalties on several food business operators for allegedly manufacturing and retailing sub-standard products, misbranding items, and running operations without valid licenses.
The punitive measures follow rigorous regulatory checks and enforcement actions initiated by the Directorate of Food and Drugs Administration (FDA).
Among those penalised are two Gujarat-based manufacturers. They have been fined Rs 2 lakh each for distributing sub-standard and misbranded salt products, including ‘Taza Shuddh Salt’.
In a separate violation involving unlicensed trading, a partner of an
Anjuna-based club has been slapped with a penalty of Rs 1 lakh for selling food items without a valid FSSAI State licence.
Regional sweet vendors were also held accountable for quality lapses. A popular food processing industry in Karnataka has faced a fine of Rs 50,000 for selling sub-standard loose Motichoor Laddoos, while a proprietor of a sweet corner in Merces was penalised
Rs 10,000 over inferior-quality Mysore Pak.
Food safety officials emphasised that strict monitoring and enforcement will continue across the state to ensure compliance with the Food Safety and Standards Act.
