Canacona: Konkan Railway police have seized 514.5 kg of bovine meat worth Rs 1,54,350 at the Margao railway station and arrested a resident of Davorlim, Margao, Fayaz Ahmed (37), in connection with the case.

According to police, the bovine meat was being transported illegally in a train from the Hazrat Nizamuddin Railway Station in Delhi with a false declaration and without the required documents from competent authorities. The meat was in an unhygienic condition, making it unfit for

consumption, police said.

The accused, a native of Karnataka, has been arrested for violating provisions of the Goa Animal Preservation Act and the Railway Act, police said.

“Our team seized the meat at the parcel office of the Margao railway station,” said Konkan Railway police in a press statement.

The illegal transportation of bovine meat in an unhygienic condition has raised serious concerns over unlawful slaughter of cattle and violation of law.

The action was taken by police inspector Sunil Gudlar, along with police sub-inspector Roosevelt Fernandes.

Police constables Sheikh Irshad and Mohammad Hussain were also part of the team. The action was carried out under the supervision of Superintendent of Police, Konkan Railway and Deputy Superintendent of Police, Konkan Railway.
