Ponda: In a key political development ahead of the Ponda by-election, senior BJP leader Vishwanath Dalvi has extended support to party candidate Ritesh Naik following intervention by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant.
Dalvi, who had earlier expressed his dissatisfaction over the party’s decision on the candidature, causing a brief stir within local party ranks. However, after a closed-door meeting with the Chief Minister on Sunday, the differences appear to have been resolved.
“All my concerns and queries have been addressed by the Chief Minister. I will fully support the party’s decision and work towards ensuring victory for Ritesh Naik,” said Dalvi after the meeting.
The BJP had named late former CM and Ponda MLA Ravi Naik’s son as their candidate for the Ponda bypoll.
Sawant’s intervention is being seen as a timely move to consolidate party unity ahead of the election . With Dalvi now backing the official candidate, the BJP is aiming to present a united front and retain the seat, with party workers preparing to intensify outreach efforts.
“Ritesh Naik will file nomination for the Ponda by-election on Monday. I will also accompany him,” said Dalvi.
