Bicholim: Eight new water storage tanks and a 20 MLD water treatment plant at Sal, estimated at Rs 60 crore, will be taken up to address the persistent water shortage in Bicholim.

The proposed tanks will come up at Harijanwada, Advalpal, Gaonkarwada-Mulgao, Shirodkarwadi-Mulgao, Mencurem, Latambarsem Rehabilitation Colony, Housing Colony-Vhalshi, Nagarzarwada-Bicholim and Pazwada-Bicholim. Officials said the Housing Board colony tank has already been installed, while work at Nagarzarwada and Pazwada is underway.

“Once the 20 MLD Sal water treatment plant and all eight tanks are

completed and operational, the water shortage issue in Bicholim will be permanently resolved,” Water Resources Minister Subhash Phal Dessai said.

The decisions were taken at a review meeting held at Mulgao, attended by Phal Dessai, Bicholim MLA Dr Chandrakant Shetye and officials of the Water Supply Department.

Shetye said that the project would ensure that the taluka no longer depends on the Podocem plant for water supply.

“The Sal plant will cater to Advalpal, Mencurem, Latambarsem, Mulgao villages and Bicholim town,” he said.
