Panaji : The BJP on Wednesday said that the seven appeals made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to strengthen the nation amid the West Asia crisis are in the national interest.

State BJP spokesperson Yatish Naik, addressing a press conference at the party headquarters in the city, stated that Modi’s appeal for fuel conservation, careful gold purchases, work-from-home practices and support for local products, among other measures, was aimed at strengthening India’s economy in the face of the US and Israel conflict with Iran, as well as conserving foreign exchange.

He further said that there was no shortage of essential commodities in the market.

Speaking further, Naik said that opposition parties were politicising the issue.

“The criticism from the Congress party in particular is baseless and politics should not be done on matters of national interest,” he added.

Replying to a question regarding National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB) data showing that Goa recorded the highest crime rate in terms of rape cases registered in the country in 2024, Naik stated that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant was serious about maintaining and protecting law and order in the state.

Replying to another question regarding a large delegation from the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) proceeding on a trip to France to attend the Cannes Film Festival despite the Prime Minister’s appeal to avoid foreign travel, Naik stated that the delegation must have gone on an official visit.

He also stated that Modi’s scheduled tour of the UAE, Netherlands, Sweden, Norway and Italy has important agenda items related to trade and commerce and national interest.
