‘Efforts on to stabilise seriously injured people’
Panaji: Health Minister Vishwajit Rane on Sunday said three of the five people critically injured in the Shirgao stampede are showing signs of improvement, while two continue to remain in a critical but stable condition at Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC) in Bambolim.
Rane visited the injured devotees at GMC on Sunday evening, accompanied by health secretary Arun Kumar Mishra, GMC dean Dr Shivanand Bandekar, and medical superintendent Dr Rajesh Patil.
He assured that a dedicated team of doctors and medical staff at GMC are working tirelessly to stabilise the critical patients and provide comprehensive care to all those injured in the incident that took place during the annual Shree Devi Lairai jatra on Saturday.
The Health Minister added that accommodation has been arranged for the relatives of the injured patients in private rooms at the premier hospital of the state.
“We pray to Devi Lairai to bless all the injured so they may fully recover and return home soon,” he said.
Providing an update on the condition of the patients, the Health Minister said, “Three out of the five critical patients are improving, while two remain critical but are currently stable. I have directed the medical teams at GMC to exercise the utmost care in treating them.”
He also announced the activation of Code Red Goa at GMC—an emergency response protocol
that brings together senior doctors and clinical heads of departments, led by the dean, to coordinate rapid decision-making and care for critically ill patients.
“We will implement Code Red Goa to ensure a faster, unified response. I will continue to personally monitor the condition of these patients to make sure they receive the highest standard of medical care,” Rane emphasised.
