Anurag Nikhare, Senior Superintendent of Post (Postal Services) Goa, said that the Centre has issued a clarification stating that Registered Post has not been discontinued but merged with Speed Post as part of a larger plan to improve postal operations.
“This clarification is published by the Central Ministry to avoid confusion. It is not discontinued at all. It is merged with Speed Post,” said Nikhare.
The Department of Posts has rationalised its mail processing system by combining the sorting and handling of Registered Post and Speed Post. This move is aimed at streamlining operations, reducing delays, improving delivery times, and better utilising logistics resources.
Both services remain accountable, with every
step recorded and monitored. However, they
differ in delivery: Registered Post is addressee-specific, while Speed Post is address-specific.
Customers can still choose to register Speed Post items, ensuring they are delivered only to the addressee, similar to traditional Registered Post.
Customers using registered Speed Post will continue to enjoy all existing benefits, along with premium features such as end-to-end online tracking, real-time delivery updates, OTP-based secure delivery, cash on delivery, credit
facilities, volume-based
discounts, and a National Account Facility for corporate clients.
