Amid ongoing internal differences involving St Andre MLA Viresh Borkar, the Revolutionary Goans Party (RGP) has convened a meeting of its Core Executive Committee (CEC) on Saturday at 6.30 pm at the party headquarters in Panaji.
In a statement issued by RGP general secretary Vishvesh Naik, the party stated that the meeting had been called to discuss several important matters concerning the organisation and the MLA.
According to the party, the agenda includes allegations of anti-party activities, disciplinary action within the party, the resignation of party president Manoj Parab and other organisational matters.
The party stated that the meeting was convened according to the availability expressed by Borkar and that notice regarding the same had already been sent to him.
Earlier in the day, Borkar had expressed willingness to hold discussions with CEC members and requested the party leadership to inform him at least one day in advance before convening any meeting.
The regional party has been facing internal tensions for more than a month due to differences between its lone MLA and members of the central leadership.
Borkar had skipped several earlier CEC meetings citing various reasons.
Earlier, Borkar had told the media that he would comment on the alleged rift within the party only after discussions with CEC members.
Borkar had created history in the 2022 Goa Assembly elections after becoming the first MLA elected on an RGP ticket. The party had also gained prominence after influencing outcomes in several constituencies where Congress candidates suffered defeats.
However, the internal crisis within the party deepened after disciplinary action was initiated against five office-bearers believed to be close to Borkar. The situation further escalated when Parab publicly criticised the MLA through social media posts before later resigning as party president and also as a founding member.
